On our workshop

Mazzano Romano is a small town north of Rome. Facing to the valley of Treja river, the historical center consists of Castello inside and Borgo outside the city walls. In the uphill spread newer parts of the town with different services. Mazzano people work mostly either in Rome or in the nearby agricultural farms. e town is surrounded by magnificent nature and remains of a 2500 year old culture.

The workshop takes place in early June and is offered to students of architecture. The learning outcome is about multidisciplinary design, learning to understand history of the place, local conditions, needs and experience of citizens. The credits 4-7 consist of work on site with exhibition, course evaluation and learning diary.

Our team

In the workshop 2019 are participating 10 students from Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, 2 students from Estonian Academy of Arts and 2 students from Tampere School of Architecture.

Väinö Tanner Foundation and Mazzano Romano

The Väinö Tanner Foundation was founded in 1961. Since 1990, the Foundation’s studios in Mazzano Romano have provided a highly praised working environment for over 200 Finnish and Estonian artists and writers.

Mazzano Romano is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Rome in the Italian region Latium, located about 35 kilometres (22 mi) north of Rome.

Mazzano Romano borders the following municipalities: Calcata, Campagnano di Roma, Castel Sant’Elia, Faleria, Magliano Romano, Nepi.

First mentioned in 945, it is one of the villages that formed from the great estate assembled by Pope Adrian I about 780, his Domusculta Capracorum. It includes the Regional Park of Veii.
